BLOG ASSIGNMENT 2

Brief and wondrous Life of Oscar Woa Tear

Throughout the reading of the novel," The brief and wondrous life of Oscar Woa ", the audience is left unsure of Oscar's willingness to live, and whether he is acting recklessly as a way to get himself purposely killed. Despite his sister Lola's warnings, he chooses to engage himself in dangerous and questionable acts. He is asked about it and states, " That is not what I’m trying to do", though he seems unsure of it his own self, Oscar does seem aware that that is probably what is going to happen to him . Oscar put all of himself into his love for Y'bon, seeing pursuing her as the only thing he has left in his life to do, and will stop at nothing. Before Oscar dies, he sends some mail back home. He seems to be giving his last goodbyes to his family. When he is killed, he doesn't seem to care what his murderers think of his speech; it in someway was his will and testament on his death bed, and when he dies his becomes immortalized, by his words, and avenger. Oscar's whole life was centered around his relationship with women, and in the end, it was his inability to accept rejection when it was most important, that inevitably killed him. The events that led up to the death of Oscar Woa are to be interpreted as the speakers way of warning the inexperienced youth about the harshness of the adult world through his work; the novel as a whole is an example of how dangerous sexuality, insecurity, and a lack of a loving home can lead the vulnerable and weak-minded to commit unsafe, and questionable acts.
